Ok, some people may dismiss this with a 'meh' when bringing up this topic, but seriously, true satisfaction comes from helping others and when others help you. Isn't that why we buy presents and love getting some, come Christmas and birthdays? Same theory applies.
In winter it's harder for people to volunteer due to constricted days and cold temperatures, and driving conditions, and holidays, and...yea we can all come up with reasons. So, then why not give back in the summer?
IMO the hardest part is getting started, doing the research and finding something you like. Find something that you have interest in, maybe volunteer as a police cadet if you fancy to be a policeman but dont have the gonads, or desire to make it a career. I'll give you my example, I love animals..be they lovable dogs or spineless rats, so I will look into animal shelters or similar organizations.
If you want the fast food approach to volunteering, try signing up for one of the events that run the summer in the city. Lots of festivals going on. And there are marathons running several times a week, every week for every cause out there. Don't believe me?...google it. Toronto marathon or Scotiabank or Acura happen to be the more popular, but not the only ones. Volunteer for that.
