Ok, first of all I know this isn't a GTA adventure. It's a GOA adventure (Greater Ottawa Area), but I feel the need to comment on it as it's one of the best natural wonders Canada has to offer. If you're not aware that Canada's natural resources are depleting at an alarming rate, then you are either new to this country or you are in complete denial. Well, the Ottawa river is slowly being desecrated to make way for dams, deforestation, and urbanization...leaving the natural river and its habitat in a stupor. So, do take advantage and visit it while you still can, as it's only a few hours away from our Toronto.

One of the ways to enjoy this river is first hand, as in conquer the rapids and venture out on its streams. It's one of the most intense, yet family friendly, adventure you will have in your life...guaranteed. Two major companies, running full day rafting trips on the river are Wilderness Tours and Owl Rafting. Personally I chose the Wilderness Tours guys as their atmosphere was unprecendented, but really you cannot go wrong with either of them. The Wilderness guys have a cool resort with parties on the weekend, bungee jumping, beach volleyball, hot tub and much more. Esprit is another French alternative if you're looking for the hardcore extreme challenge. They run 7 man rafts which are more prone to flip and send you to the bottom of the river. I think they also include Bungee jumping as part of their package. All of them should include breakfast, a yummy BBQ lunch and cliff jumping as part of your awesome day. Cliff jumping in low water is really knarly as you stare at a 25-30ft drop. Will you take the plunge in the rushing rapids?

Go out there and enjoy our river. Go on any day but Saturday and save $20-30.

Cost: $110 and up

I definitely want to go back during high water season. This day was one of the lowest, which meant more rapids, but less force. They said in high water, an extra 10-20ft means more powerful rapids, more action, but some of the smaller rapids will disappear. So it's a completely different experience between the two. I'm also looking for other rivers to go and discover.
